Race and Criminal Justice - Is there a connection? What does the information state?

In this video, I’ll address the concern– is criminal justice based upon race in the United States? The United States has the biggest criminal justice system worldwide. In 2015, more than 6.7 million people from throughout the nation were under some type of correctional control. This consisted of 2.2 million individuals who were jailed in either federal, state, or regional jails and prisons.

These data are unquestionably shocking; nevertheless, their broadness masks the racial variation that pervades the whole United States criminal justice system. According to a 2018 report provided by The Sentencing Project, a research study and advocacy group based in Washington, D.C.:

” African-Americans are most likely than white Americans to be apprehended. When jailed, they are most likely to be founded guilty; and as soon as founded guilty, they are most likely to experience prolonged jail sentences. African-American grownups are 5.9 times as most likely to be jailed than whites and Hispanics are 3.1 times as most likely.”
