After being identified a “Superpredator” by society and sentenced to 2 life sentences in jail at the age of 16, Halim Flowers shares his journey and how through love he had the ability to see himself as more than a hazard to society envision a future beyond the boundaries of the cage where he believed he would invest the rest of his life. SPEAKER BIO: At 16, Halim Flowers discovered himself sentenced to 40 years to life in jail. More than 20 years later on, Halim authored 11 books while serving time, mentored incarcerated youths through D.C.’s Young Guys Emerging program, and co-founded Unchained Media Collective, a production and media arts business concentrated on informing the stories of presently or previously incarcerated individuals. Halim was launched from the D.C. prison on March 21, 2019, through the Imprisonment Decrease Modification Act of 2016, which enables people to petition for case evaluation prior to the D.C.
