Bad guy Justice in a Pandemic: The Jails

In these 2 public webinars from the Professors of Law at the University of Cambridge, the panels check out the huge extra pressures that the pandemic has actually troubled the criminal justice system.

In this 2nd webinar we take a look at the existing conditions in English jails and check out why more has actually not been provided for those in custody throughout the pandemic.

At the start of April, the federal government revealed prepare for the early release of approximately 4,000 detainees in England and Wales, to decrease jail overcrowding and to slow the rate of infection amongst detainees and personnel. The Jail Governors Association and Public Health England argued that launching 10,000 – 15,000 detainees was required. By late April, however, a simple 33 detainees had actually been launched. What failed? What has taken place throughout May? What have been the ramifications for the welfare/health/progression of both detainees and personnel? What are the lessons to be discovered now, and for the future – within the jail and probation systems?
